Although all of Wilkins' work was produced by G-Plan, little biographical information is available on this designer. However, it can be assumed that he worked as an in-house designer for the British manufacturer for many years. In the 1960s, British furniture manufacturer G-Plan set the standard for mainstream modernist furniture in post-war Britain. In order to compete with imported Scandinavian furniture, G-Plan hired designer Ib Kofod-Larsen (1921-2003), who created several designs for the company. It is assumed that Wilkins was heavily influenced by Kofod-Larsen's designs, with his pieces often mistakenly attributed to Kofod-Larsen.
