An elegant adjustable bentwood piano stool from Czechoslovakia, dating to the 1930s, featuring a sculptural black-finished beech frame and original-style metal screw adjustment mechanism. The design follows the celebrated Central European bentwood furniture tradition associated with manufacturers such as Thonet and Fischel. The exact manufacturer cannot be confirmed, as no original label or stamp has survived. The round wooden seat rotates on a substantial metal threaded spindle, allowing the height to be adjusted from approximately 44 to 65 cm (17.3–25.6 in). Four gracefully curved bentwood legs radiate from the central column and are connected by a circular stretcher, creating a highly recognizable architectural silhouette. The stool has been carefully refurbished while retaining visible traces of age and use. Areas of wear through the black finish reveal the warm beech beneath and contribute to its authentic antique character. Originally conceived as a piano stool, this versatile piece can also function as an adjustable side seat, vanity stool, artist stool or decorative accent chair. Origin: Czechoslovakia. Period: 1930s. Attribution: Thonet or Fischel style; no surviving manufacturer’s label or stamp. Materials: Beech wood, metal. Condition: Carefully refurbished, minor signs of use and age. Dimensions: Adjustable height: 44–65 cm / 17.3–25.6 in. Diameter: 37 cm / 14.6 in. Product number: 260555.
