Old japanese brown satsuma porcelain box with a lid. Marked on the bottom with japanese 'dai nippon' (great japan) characters. Most likely dating back to meiji period (1868 - 1912) when these markings were used, reflecting greatly increased nationalism of the era. Made of porcelain. Body painted brown with raised yellow spiral moriage pattern. Lid decorated with images of geisha, navy and gold clouds and moriage details in yellow, green and white. Good antique condition with no cracks, chips or crazing. There are few places where brown finish and gold glaze is worn off. Raised moriage pattern is missing in few places. Please see photos.
