Jaj (short for james a jobling) was the manufacturer of pyrex tableware, casseroles and other cookware in the uk from 1922 until the factory closed (in sunderland, england) in 2007. Production of pyrex opal began in the mid-1950s as canteen tableware, then was launched to the general public in 1957 with the coronet and wild bryony tableware models. Soon after, the "gaiety" product line was launched, including the ever-popular snowflake and daisy patterns. These patterns marked the beginning of a long series of opal pyrex that exploded in the 1960s, offering consumers a wide range of unique patterns in the english market. The items were stamped jaj made in england until the mid-1970s, when corning glass works, new york, bought the entire company and the items began to be produced with the pyrex england stamp.
