Louis XIV armchair trimmed with curved arm damasks with support and sculpted feet with x-crotch crotch. This large louis XIV armchair of vast proportions is typical of the furniture of the late 17th century. It is, however, commonly referred to as louis XIII. Its wide, high flat, square back tilts slightly at the back. As on its padded seat, a floral-patterned damask completely covers the frame. The seat belt is completely covered with fabric held by rows of beaded nails. The open arms form an elegant butt curve ending with a leafy coil. The sculpted armrest holder is still positioned at the top of the front feet. The most beautiful seats are distinguished by the sculpture of the extremities of the feet and the heads of the arms. There are motifs of acanthus leaves, flowers in volutes, etc. We prefer arms whose curve is well developed, not too horizontal, curved with frankness and without cuffs. The period armchairs are generally distinguished by the assemblage of the brace with the forefoot. The walnut wood that has been patinated for more than 200 years has darkened. The armrest cuffs did not appear until the very end of the 17th century and were only widespread with the regency. The top folders in basket handles also date from this period (1st quarter of the 18th century). Seat height: 50 cm. Very good condition.
