A chest / mule chest in oak of the north of england of the sixteenth century (yorkshire). 154l 92h 64p.an exceptionally good example with the original sculpture and the initials of the owner ac. Opens to reveal a candle box. Under the main box are two drawers that were originally used to store shoes. Mule is an old english word for slipper or shoe and these were kept safe in drawers from rats, mice and wet soil each night. The room is in exceptional condition for its age and use. No woodworms, no loose joints or major cracks or cracks. The lock is missing and possible iron work or later and the buttons of the handles have been removed in the past.
