Description
Period: ca. Late 19th – early 20th century. A pair of antique cups and saucers to charm, among others, collectors of quimper earthenware. Cups or saucers are not identical, one with a man and the other a woman. The surrounding patterns aren't the same either, but their overall style, shapes, size, colors, and aged look make them a great pair. They are very clearly painted by hand, and the glazed defects are witness to a certain age. Quimper is a region of brittany that has been manufacturing earthenware since the beginning of the 18th century. Three large factories were active, including the 'grande maison de la hubaudière' (known as the 'hb factory'). This set comes from the hb plant. Precise dating is a matter reserved for expert collectors in quimper since antique marks have been reused over time. Condition: good ancient condition. Glaze shard on the edge and handle of one of the cups. Various glaze and paint defects (result of the production process), and cracking at. The inside of the cups. Size: See photo.
