German religious altar from the 19th century made by sailors, whose boat carried boxes of cigars. To pass the time, sailors carved these boxes with knives (the marks and labels of which are still present in places) to create objects, generally religious. Here, an altar dedicated to a painted bisque statuette of saint anthony of padua, in excellent condition. Folk art / tramp art. Unusual piece, both simple and skillfully made dimensions: 35.5x19x10.9cm.
