Big flat oval by Gabriel Fourmaintraux in Desvres, Africanist decoration shaped canoe, bright green, black, red and white enamels, edges in enamel black mast. 60s. Fourmaintraux dynasty In 1899, Emile Fourmaintraux creates a workshop at a place called the pottery in Desvres (no - Calais). His son Gabriel launches in 1905 the exclusive manufacturing of porcelain that will last until 1925, when he can return to the manufacturing of earthenware. Gabriel Fourmaintraux develop so widely the pieces inspired by the french regional styles that will be sold throughout the territory, and in Belgium through a nascent commercial network. 1946: Claude Fourmaintraux and Daniel Dutertre come support Gabriel, their father and father-in-law, and develop the Fourmaintraux and Dutertre SA company until 1985-86. It will then be a slow decline until the total cessation of activity in 2009. Gabriel Fourmaintraux factory is today the Museum of Desvres earthenware with a collection of over 10,000 molds.
