Nils Strinning, inventor of the String shelving

Nils Strinning (1917-2006), nicknamed Nisse, is the Swedish designer who designed one of the most copied shelving systems in the world. An interior architect graduated in Stockholm, he won in 1949 a competition organised by the Royal Library of Stockholm by proposing the String: a modular shelving system in lacquered metal and veneered wood, suspended from vertical bent wire uprights. Light, elegant, infinitely modular, the String shelving is now reissued by String Furniture and features in every modern design collection.

The String shelving remains Nils Strinning's signature piece, and one of the most recognisable Scandinavian storage systems in the world. A vintage bookshelf to find for those wanting a Swedish design classic, functional and timeless.
