Gastone Rinaldi, the Italian tubular chair
Gastone Rinaldi (1920-2006) belongs to that generation of Italian industrialist-designers who, after the war, laid the foundations of modern Italian design. The son of the founder of Rima, a Venetian metal furniture manufactory, he took over the family business in 1948 and developed there for thirty years chairs and armchairs in tubular steel that equipped Italian offices, schools and restaurants. His DU 41 chair (1952) received the Compasso d'Oro in 1954, and his DU 30 chair remains a quiet classic of Italian design.
The DU 41 and DU 30 chairs from Rima remain Gastone Rinaldi's most iconic pieces. Vintage Italian chairs in tubular steel and faux leather to find for those wanting an Italian modernist seat with a historic signature but still accessible price.
