Pascal Mourgue, the quiet elegance of French design
Pascal Mourgue (1943-2014), younger brother of Olivier Mourgue, is one of the great signatures of French design from the 1980s and 90s. Trained at the École Boulle and then at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs, he signed for forty years for Knoll, Ligne Roset, Cassina, Fermob and Artelano furniture of restrained elegance: seats with soft curves, tables on bronze or stainless steel legs, minimalist lamps. A body of work where, beneath the apparent sobriety, lies an obsession with the right balance between comfort, line and material.
Asahi chairs for Artelano, Cosse armchairs for Ligne Roset and Pascal Mourgue Knoll tables remain the designer's most recognisable pieces. French vintage furniture to find for those wanting a quiet, precise seventies-eighties signature.
