Jacques Hitier, schoolroom furniture turned icon

Jacques Hitier (1917-1999) designed the furniture of French schools. A designer trained at the École Boulle, he signed from the 1950s onwards for the Mullca, Tubauto and Multitable manufactures chairs, desks and classroom furniture that would equip generations of classrooms. His pieces, long relegated to utilitarian objects, are now rediscovered as great French industrial design: welded tubular structures, coloured formica tops, perfect functionality. A democratic signature now cult among collectors.

Jacques Hitier chairs and desks from Mullca, in tubular structure with wood or formica, have become particularly sought-after pieces of vintage school furniture. To find for those who love honest, no-frills French industrial design.
