Gae Aulenti, architect of the Musée d'Orsay

Gae Aulenti (1927-2012) is probably the greatest Italian female architect of the 20th century. A graduate of the Politecnico di Milano in 1953, she designed the transformation of the Orsay station into a museum in 1986, but also the Palazzo Grassi in Venice and the Asia Society Museum in New York. For design, she created for Knoll, FontanaArte, Martinelli Luce, Kartell and Poltronova a production where architecture irrigates every piece of furniture. The Pipistrello lamp (1965) remains her absolute icon, becoming a classic of Italian lighting.

The Pipistrello lamp for Martinelli Luce, the Jumbo Knoll marble table, and the Locus Solus chair remain Gae Aulenti's most iconic pieces. Italian vintage furniture to find for lovers of design where every line thinks like architecture.
