Ron Arad, the British designer-sculptor
Ron Arad (born 1951) is one of the major figures of contemporary design. Israeli settled in London since 1973, trained at the Architectural Association, he founded his One Off studio in 1981 and developed there a body of work where design becomes sculpture: unique pieces in raw welded steel, radical curves, exploration of industrial techniques. His Big Easy (1989), Bookworm armchair (1993) for Kartell and Tom Vac chair (1997) remain his most iconic pieces. Winner of the London Design Medal and the Royal Designer for Industry Prize, he transformed the designer's place in the 21st century.
