Lion Soup Tureen – Blue-grey Hollyhocks 1890-1920

Rare ironstone soup tureen from the period 1890-1920. Generous shape, with two moulded handles and a domed lid with an openwork grip. Very fine and well-defined decoration of hollyhocks, in a delicate blue-grey on an ivory background, displayed on the body and lid. Stamped "Aux Lions de Faïence," a Parisian establishment located at 90, rue de Rivoli. Founded in 1761, this brand specialised in tableware and offered pieces commissioned from French manufacturers bearing its own mark. Here is a soup tureen modelled after Trémières, likely commissioned from the Salins factory. In beautiful vintage condition with signs of its age. A very fine hairline crack, minimal, is present on the edge of the tureen. Wear on the edges of the handles and the vessel, as well as a slight patina inside (see photos). Maximum diameter 26 cm, total height with lid 18 cm, height without lid 12 cm. Hollyhocks in blue: a decoration with a strong presence.
