"Discover this magnificent botanical engraving on the Lapland Buttercup or Ranunculus Lapponicus in Latin ⭐ This plate is almost 200 years old, it dates from 1829 ⭐ It was hand-colored and is 23 x 15 cm in size and highlighted by a beautiful cream-colored paper. ⭐ The work, combining the beauty of nature with scientific accuracy, was published in a scientific framework with the aim of listing all the flowers of France. ⭐ The engraving is in very good condition with some signs of aging on the edges of the sheet. See also the photos. ⭐ The illustration is by Pierre-Antoine Poiteau (1766 - 1854) French botanist and horticulturist. From 1829 to 1851, he directed the Revue horticole. In 1835, with Pierre Jean François Turpin, he republished the Traité des arbres fruit trees. In 1846, the French Pomology, Collection of the most beautiful fruits cultivated in France. In 1848 and 1853, the two volumes of his Course in Horticulture appeared. A member of several learned societies, Poiteau was later head of the botanical garden of the medical school, then of that of the natural history museum. He discovered many species and genera of plants, and he even created several families (cyclanthaceae, for example). As a horticulturist and pomologist, he also contributed greatly to the improvement of table fruits. As an artist, he is esteemed and his watercolor lithographs are sought after.
