Set of 6 Fischel bentwood bistro chairs, Czechoslovakia, circa 1930–1950.
Set of six Fischel bentwood bistro chairs, made in Czechoslovakia and dating from around 1930–1950. The chairs are made of beech, using the bentwood technique for which Fischel was known. Each chair features a round wooden seat and a high curved backrest with four slender turned rods. Curved supports connect the seat and backrest, while a circular bentwood stretcher reinforces the legs. The beech wood has developed a warm colour and natural patina over the years. There are tonal differences between the chairs, as well as scratches, marks, and surface wear due to age and use. The six chairs are in good vintage condition. They form a matching set, although small differences in colour, wear, and finish may be observed between individual chairs. A classic set of bentwood chairs from Central Europe, originally designed as practical seating for cafés and bistros, and equally suitable today around a kitchen or dining table. Dimensions per chair. Width: 43 cm. Depth: 48 cm. Height: 86 cm. Seat height: 45 cm.
