French Walnut Chest, Italian Renaissance style – Late 18th century

This solid walnut chest features high-relief carvings, including helmet, quiver, arrow and scroll motifs. The central part of the front panel depicts a combat scene with several figures, surrounded by ornamental motifs. The corners on the facade are decorated with sculpted epaulettes also depicting soldiers. The whole thing rests on flat feet. The top mounted on two wrought iron hinges is held by a so-called knee compass. The craftsmanship highlights the artistry and thematic elements typical of italian renaissance art.
