Portrait of Camille Flammarion, work created at the end of the 19th century. Red signature present: Silvestre ST dated 1891. This work is the creation of an academic painter or portraitist from the French school of the late 19th century. Camille Flammarion (1842-1925) was a famous French astronomer and writer. An interesting work as it is an intimate portrait that is not the most widely circulated official portrait, as at that time Flammarion usually sported a fuller beard. The frame is period, made of blackened wood, perfectly suited to this work. The condition of the corners needs to be reviewed. The work deserves a light cleaning but has no defects or tears.
