Elegant enamelled earthenware pouring bottle created by Roger Capron in Vallauris, made for the prestigious department store Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, which distributed some of his creations in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. This piece stands out for its sculptural silhouette, featuring a long asymmetrical spout and a pierced handle, characteristics of Capron's formal explorations at that time. Its decoration, hand-executed in a palette of grey, cobalt blue, black, and olive green, depicts a stylised character inspired by folklore or medieval themes. The inscription "SCOTCH, " integrated into the decoration, recalls the original utilitarian purpose while giving the object a strong graphic identity. The design, of great finesse, blends poetry, humour, and influences from popular art, in a style immediately recognisable as Roger Capron's. The milky white glaze highlights the richness of the decoration and the quality of execution typical of the artist's most sought-after works. A true icon of French ceramics from the 1950s-1960s, this bottle reflects the international recognition of Roger Capron, whose creations were distributed by Saks Fifth Avenue to an American clientele attuned to modern French design. In perfect condition.
