The liège school of landscape brings together liège artists with an impressionist tendency inspired by the belgian ardennes for the period spanning from 1880 to 1950, of which modeste-jean lhomme is a member. Oil on panel representing a stream crossing a forest. This painting is painted with a confident hand with colors and generous impasto. Modeste-jean lhomme, born february 20, 1883 in liège and died november 19, 1946, is a belgian landscape painter. Son of jean pierre joseph lhomme, he started in the workshop of a paint contractor in liège. Trained at the royal academy of fine arts in liège under the masters adrien de witte, évariste carpentier and auguste donnay, he turned towards landscape painting. Admirer of renoir and disciple of r. Heintz, he mainly painted the valleys of the lesse, aisne and semois. He exhibits in liège, paris and brussels, and his works are acquired by public and private collections. In 1933, he was named a knight of the order of leopold II. After his death, several retrospective exhibitions paid tribute to him. I measured 30 cm X 40 cm for the panel and 44 cm X 54 cm with its style frame. In excellent condition for the panel and some marks of time and use for the framing. The photos are an integral part of the description, please refer to them to judge the condition.
