Empire period console in mahogany – Detached columns – Black marble – Early 19th century. Elegant Empire period console made of mahogany, featuring a sober and monumental architecture characteristic of the early 19th century. It opens at the front with a wide belt drawer, adorned in the centre with a beautiful decorative bronze entry. The front supports are formed by two detached columns embellished with rings and finely chiseled bronze capitals, while the corners of the belt also receive bronze ornaments with palmette designs. The console rests on a substantial full stretcher top, providing the whole piece with excellent stability and an architecturally structured silhouette typical of Empire furniture. It is topped with a thick black marble surface, offering an elegant contrast to the warm tones of the mahogany. The photographs show traditional construction, notably the dovetail-joined drawer, as well as a beautiful antique patina of the wood. Period: Empire – early 19th century, around 1810-1820.
