Magnificent burl mahogany writing desk, Empire period, returned from Egypt. 19th century. Topped with intact black and dark gray marble. Below it, you will find a large drawer that can be locked. This elegant writing desk opens on the front with a flap, revealing: – two niches. – A shelf. – Seven small drawers with pull handles depicting gilded brass lion heads. Its flap is covered with a green leather top, in worn condition. In the lower section, you will find two doors that can be locked, revealing two beautiful shelves. Two keys are present and functional for this piece of furniture. It rests on two wooden claw feet, blackened at the front and two straight feet at the back. Decorated with gilded bronze caryatids and flower medallions. Stylized (small chip on one of them, see photo.) Good overall condition. Note slight warping of the wood on the side, see photo.
