Impressive large antique grain basket from the Auvergne region of France, dating from around 1900. The basket is traditionally handmade from straw and bramble, using tightly bound bundles of straw linked with strips of bramble. This ancient rural weaving technique creates a solid and textured construction characteristic visible throughout the piece. Originally used for grain storage, the basket has a generously rounded shape and retains its original woven lid. Its exceptionally large dimensions make it a particularly remarkable example. Over a century of age and use has given the natural materials a beautiful warm patina, with variations in colour and texture that highlight its handmade character. The basket remains in good antique condition, with signs of age-related wear and some localized losses and imperfections in the weaving, as shown in the photos. These are consistent with its age and original utilitarian use. A beautiful and authentic piece of French rural history, just as impressive today as a large decorative object or storage basket full of character. Dimensions. Width: 90 cm. Depth: 70 cm. Height: 87 cm.
