Painted Folk Art Bridal Cabinet

An extraordinary antique pine wedding cabinet dating from around 1825. This cabinet is simply designed but beautifully painted in a fresh blue with floral decorations in the panels. The light blue paint has worn beautifully over the years, giving it a distinctive look. Several restorations were carried out at some point; for example, the top molding of the crest and the legs were replaced. These have been professionally repainted. The interior largely retains its original features, with shelves, a drawer, coat hooks, and a later added rod. The cabinet still has its original working lock with key and can be transported in two parts if desired. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were then placed in a stateroom on the farm, rarely used for distinguished visitors or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history.
