This PH Boudoir Mirror, designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen, traces its origins to the 1930s, a period in which Henningsen was redefining the role of light in the modern home. Conceived as both a mirror and a source of gentle illumination, the design reflects his enduring pursuit of glare-free, comfortable light and his belief that functional objects should enhance everyday life. Round in form, the mirror is framed by a painted metal surround and the mirror glass is illuminated from behind, creating a soft halo of indirect light around the glass. This backlit effect provides an even, flattering illumination ideally suited to its intended purpose as a boudoir mirror, while lending the piece a quiet, sculptural presence. Refined detailing and balanced proportions exemplify the elegance and restraint that characterize Danish functionalism. Produced by Louis Poulsen, the mirror stands as a rare and distinctive expression of Poul Henningsen’s innovative approach to lighting. Nearly a century after its original conception, the design remains remarkably modern, uniting utility, atmosphere and timeless Scandinavian sophistication.
