This beautiful pair of side chairs, designed and produced by Paul T. Frankl in 1933, perfectly embodies the clean lines of Frankl's early 1930s Art Deco work. The solid curly walnut frame, fully restored and refinished with a traditional shellac varnish, is in superb condition. They have been fully restored and reupholstered in a thick, stormy gray Elitis mohair velvet, exceptionally soft to the touch and made of 100% mohair, which highlights the shape of these seats. Their modernist lines are truly elegant. Photos of the complete restoration, and documentation, are available upon request. Paul T. Frankl (1886–1958) was an Austrian Art Deco furniture designer from Vienna who emigrated to the United States in 1914. He was one of the pioneers of modern design in the United States, known for his Skyscraper furniture of the 1920s and his work for the Hollywood elite in the 1930s. He moved to New York City in 1915, bringing with him a fresh perspective and an enthusiasm for creating a distinctly American aesthetic. Frankl began as an architect before turning to design and had a major influence on the distinctive aesthetic of American modernism.
