Pair of Alfa chairs by Hannes Wettstein, 2001, Molteni

Designed in 2001 by Hannes Wettstein for Molteni & C, the Alfa chairs are distinguished by a construction reduced to just two elements: one forming the backrest and rear legs, the other shaping the seat and extending into the front legs. Presented here in a rare silver finish, they are made of SMC (Sheet Molding Compound), a composite of polyester resin and fiberglass originally developed for the automotive industry. This material ensures strength, lightness, and precision, while the metallic surface accentuates their sculptural, contemporary presence. Winner of the ICFF Editors Award in New York in 2001, they embody a bold vision of early 21st-century Italian design. Italy, 2001. A slight restored dent on one of the chairs.
