Mies van der Rohe was one of the most important representatives of classical modernism; his innovative ideas influenced several generations of architects. Mies van der Rohe designed the German Pavilion for the 1929 World's Fair in Barcelona, for which he also designed the Barcelona furniture. Since 1953, Knoll International has held the exclusive manufacturing rights for the Barcelona chair. It features hand-polished, mirror-chromed steel legs and leather upholstery made from 40 pieces of leather sewn together by hand and then stitched to the padding with leather buttons. The model shown with its ottoman is an original from the mid-1990s, in natural-colored Venezia leather. The manufacturer's name is engraved on the base of the chair and footrest, and the cushions are stamped underneath. Height 77 X Width 75 X Depth 77 cm. Seat height 43 cm.
