Elegant pair of vintage bookends featuring deer decorations, combining patinated metal animal sculptures with golden reflections and imposing polished black marble bases. The two pieces form a particularly successful composition: one depicts a reclining doe with its head raised and a delicately extended leg, while the second represents a standing doe in an elegant pose. The modelling of the animals is stylised and elegant, with long necks, slender silhouettes, and deliberately smooth surfaces that catch the light and highlight the nuances of the metallic patina. The sculptures rest on heavy rectangular bases made of black marble, extended by two matching vertical supports. The marble features very beautiful contrasting natural veining, blending deep black, white, and broad shades of golden beige. The combination of black marble and golden metal, along with the stylised treatment of the deer, strongly evokes the Art Deco decorative repertoire. In the absence of a signature or any element allowing for a certain dating, this pair is presented as being in the Art Deco style, likely made during the 20th century. Each bookend weighs approximately 1.6 kg, giving them excellent stability and allowing them to effectively hold a row of books. Both functional and highly decorative, this pair will easily find its place in a library, on a desk, or a console, in both classic interiors and contemporary decor. Each bookend: Height: 14 cm. Width: 17 cm. Depth: 9 cm. Weight: 1.6 kg. Overall vintage condition is good. The sculptures show a lovely old patina as well as some marks and variations in colour related to age and use. The marble retains a very nice polished appearance. There are a few marks consistent with the age of the set, which do not affect its stability or decorative interest.
