We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare and important Italian Tête-à-Tête sofa from the 18th century, hand-carved and dating from around 1740. This unique model is adorned with original gilding, featuring sculptures of lion heads and their manes on the backrest, and legs representing lion paws. Visually stunning, this sofa is low, more akin to a bench or a small seat. We can add Victorian porcelain casters to increase the height by approximately 5 cm if desired. The upholstery appears to date from the late 19th century and is in good original condition. The base has been restored with new hessian fabric. The gilding is beautifully patinated and original. Dimensions at the widest point: height 61 cm, width 104 cm, depth 54 cm. Please note that signs of wear and slight discolouration are consistent with age. Vintage leather items always exhibit a natural patina in the form of creases and wear. An annual waxing is recommended to preserve moisture, and it is advisable to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight for hand-dyed leather to prevent drying and discolouration.
