Lidded box from the workshop pottery of Meindert Zaalberg "Stop". Netherlands, 1962. Beautiful lidded box or pot designed by the famous Dutch potter Meindert Zaalberg (1907-1989) for his company Pottery Zaalberg. It is part of the "Stop" series designed in 1962, the name meaning "stopper" and referring to the shape of the handles of other items in the collection. This lidded box does not show this particular shape as clearly as other pieces in the collection - although the lid does resemble a stopper somewhat - but it is part of it. Handmade with a wonderfully tactile surface featuring a few visible "rings" on the side and on the lid. The lid is centred and has a beautiful thick edge. The interior of the box is cream speckled, referred to as "Griesmeel" in Dutch, meaning semolina. Excellent vintage condition with no flaws. Signed on the base.
