Painted Folk Art Bridal Chest

This beautiful antique bridal chest dates from around 1900 and features highly decorative painting. This piece originates from Romania and is a stunning example of folk art from that period. It was customary in the past to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a stateroom on the farm, rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. All our bridal chests have been inspected and restored where necessary, although the characteristic appearance of these chests has been retained. The lid of this example has begun to warp slightly, so it doesn't quite close completely. Furthermore, the piece has been fully treated against woodworm and treated with beeswax. This piece is primarily decorated with floral paintings, with a love heart at its center. 51cm high, 117cm wide, 53cm deep.
