Maurice Pré, French cabinetmaker of sober modernism

Maurice Pré (1907-1988) is a French post-war cabinetmaker trained at the École Boulle, whose production of sober and functional furniture fits within the French modernist vein of the 1950s and 60s. Closely linked to the Maison Pelletier, Steiner and the Galeries Lafayette, he signed chairs, armchairs, desks and bookshelves where light solid wood, rattan and lacquered metal composed a simple and elegant language. A vintage French signature with remarkable formal coherence, still very accessible on the market. Maurice Pré chairs and armchairs in solid wood and rattan remain the cabinetmaker's most identifiable pieces. French vintage furniture to find for those wanting a sober French modernist signature, at the crossroads of decorative and functional.
