Description
Large scale mural poster of the anatomy of a chafer. Lithograph on two sheets of paper, mounted on canvas. Bright colors, a groove, slight fading, cracks at the top of the center, protective tape around the edges, but overall good condition considering its age and use. Author and illustrator was Professor Paul Pfurtscheller. Pfurtscheller (1855-1927) produced a series of 39 "Zoologische Wandtafeln" (zoological wall plates) to be used for higher educational purposes. Although he was a modest high school teacher of training he gained recognition by the scientific community worldwide for this remarkable work. The viper is "Plate 34" in the series. The Pfurtscheller wall charts were first published in Vienna, Austria, in 1902, by A. Pichler's Witwe & Sohn. This article was published by the Dutch company "Martinus Nijhoff" presumably around 1929. Later editions were published by the Dutch company "Martinus Nijhoff" until 1953. This article was published by Martinus Nijhoff in 1926. It is the an early editions on all sides, while later editions used offset printing. Dimensions: 125cm width x 135 cm high | 49.2 "wide x 53.15" high Condition: Good, this vintage item has no flaws, but it may have slight traces of use.
