Large fireplace mirror from the Napoléon III period 208×86cm mercury glass

Large fireplace mirror from the Napoléon III period (circa 1855-1870), with an exceptional size of 208 × 86 cm. STYLE AND PERIOD Characteristic shape with rounded upper corners, inherited from the Louis-Philippe style, enriched with Second Empire decor: naturalistic bouquets of roses, daisies, and acanthus leaves in the four corners. The frame is highlighted by a twist on the front and a row of water leaves on the inner edge. MATERIALS Wood and gilded stucco with gold leaf on a red ground (bole), visible in places under the wear of the gilding — a testament to traditional gilding. GLASS Original mercury glass, showing the pitting and characteristic sparkle of old tinning. The backing panel is original wood, never replaced. DIMENSIONS Height: 208 cm — Width: 86 cm. CONDITION Very good overall condition for its age. Light wear to the gilding and small losses at the corners, original cracks in the stucco, pitting in the glass — patina of use consistent with the period, with no notable visual impact. No recent restoration. PROVENANCE Acquired from a Parisian antique dealer. Dating established based on style and technique, not certified. Ideal placed on the floor against a wall (creating a "psyche mirror" effect) or as a fireplace overmantel.
