This bedside chest of drawers, made in the late 19th century in the Louis XVI style, is appealing due to the quality of its craftsmanship: thick solid wood, a carefully matched walnut burr veneer front, and cut-corner uprights enhanced with the characteristic fluting of the style. The original veined marble top surmounts a drawer in the upper part, while the lower section creates an illusion with a door concealed behind a trompe-l'œil drawer front — a clever and quite rare feature for this type of furniture. The ring handles have been replaced (not original) but remain in keeping with the style. A considered restoration was carried out in the workshop: nourishing and reviving the wood with natural wax according to traditional cabinetmaking methods, complemented by manual polishing and buffing of the marble top to restore its full shine.
