Salins barbotine plates – asparagus & artichoke decoration

Superb antique slipware plates (late 19th - early 20th century) from the Salins-les-Bains earthenware factory (Jura), decorated in relief with a bouquet of asparagus and an artichoke on an ivory background, enhanced with green and purple. These emblematic pieces of the French table from the late 19th century combine decorative charm and craftsmanship. Very beautiful harmony of colors. Slipware, a technique consisting of applying a slip, allows for the creation of very detailed relief decorations before glazing and firing. Highly prized in the 19th century, it brought success to many French earthenware factories. As for the Salins-les-Bains earthenware factory, it is known for its culinary and decorative pieces with naturalistic motifs, sought after today by collectors for their authenticity and vibrant colors. One of the two plates is stamped Salins intaglio. Diameter 23 cm, height 2.5 cm. Good condition, patina of use, cracks in the enamel and small traces of time, a chip under one of the two plates (see photos).
