In this advertisement, you will find a pair of antique Foo Dogs made of ceramic used as incense holders (joss sticks), indicated by the small opening at the top of their heads. The Foo Dogs are not actually dogs, but lions, considered powerful symbols of protection in Chinese culture. They are finished with a vibrant green glaze. The green colour of the glaze is highly symbolic and represents good fortune. They are always displayed in pairs, representing a balance of energies (yin and yang). Made in China in the 19th century.
