Bitossi Rimini Blu Horse Sculpture by Aldo Londi, Italy, circa 1965. Large ceramic horse sculpture designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi, Italy, circa 1965–1970. The work belongs to the archaeological and Etruscan-inspired production that defined some of Bitossi’s most important mid-century output, where ancient Mediterranean forms were reinterpreted through a modernist vocabulary. Executed in textured Rimini Blu glaze with incised geometric decoration, the sculpture combines a reductive architectural form with the heavily worked surfaces characteristic of Bitossi’s production during the Londi period. The stylized body, cylindrical legs, and graphic linear motifs recall archaic equestrian and votive figures, consistent with the broader postwar interest in primitive and pre-classical sources across Italian decorative arts. Under Aldo Londi’s artistic direction, Bitossi established a distinct position within European ceramic production, moving beyond functional pottery toward sculptural objects intended for architectural interiors and serious collections. Works from this period remain among the clearest expressions of Italian mid-century ceramic design. Dimensions: Height: 10.63 in. (27 cm) Width: 10.63 in. (27 cm) Depth: 4.72 in. (12 cm) Weight: 4.19 lbs. (1.9 kg) Bearing the house’s characteristic hand-incised signature mark on the underside. Condition: Very good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use.
