A Swedish Gustavian trumeau mirror dry scraped to its original surface with remnants of original gold gilt and later bronze paint on a base of greenish white gesso. The decorations are characterized by the neoclassical style of the late Gustavian era – with motifs like Mercury's staff, Horn of Plenty and Medusa's heads. A beautiful piece where the rest of the original gold gilt glow in the twilight - leaving a atmosphere of shabby decay and buygone era. The authenticity of this mirror is well accounted for, as it both has the original Stockholm Hallmark from 1830 and the mark of the maker. P. Holmberg. Proberbly Johan Petter Holmberg. (1780-183) The mirror glass and the glass backing board are newer. Height: 93 cm (37”) Width: 40 cm (16”) Condition: Good original condition, dry scraped to original surface which also reveals small losses, old restorations and wear due to age and use. (see photos).
