Very beautiful and large Cretan jar made of terracotta, handcrafted, presented on its base of reconstituted stone. Of ovoid shape, it has three small handles and a body entirely adorned with horizontal relief cords. The shoulder is decorated with a lovely wavy frieze applied in relief. This is a traditional Cretan utilitarian pottery, likely dating from the second half of the 20th century. Its shape and decoration are part of the long tradition of large Cretan storage jars. It has a very beautiful natural exterior patina, with mosses and lichens acquired over the years. It was used outdoors with a basin placed inside, which explains the excellent condition of the interior terracotta. A drainage hole was later drilled in the bottom, presumably during its reuse as a planter. The jar is presented on an old base of reconstituted stone, which suits it particularly well and gives it a very beautiful presence. They have long been used together, and their patinas blend very well.
