Woven in the Mrirt tradition of the Middle Atlas, this Moroccan rug makes a visual statement through its contrast and scale. Dense, plush ecru tufts rise from a deeply woven black background, creating a composition that is clearly visible from across the room. The large abstract shapes, irregular rounded protrusions, cut vertical lines, and horizontal touches give the rug a sculptural quality that is both modern and deeply rooted in Berber design language. The weaver has played with the contrast between the ecru tufts and the black background to create a depth that changes throughout the day. In bright light, the ecru areas catch the light and advance, while the black background recedes. Under softer light, the relationship reverses, and the dark areas unify the composition into a cohesive field. This interplay keeps the surface lively and dynamic. Hand-knotted in Morocco from 100% wool, the rug combines dense, plush tufts with flat-woven areas that add variety to the texture. The two-height relief creates a surface that is as pleasing to the foot as it is to the eye. The black border that surrounds the rug anchors the composition, framing the central abstract shape and giving the rug a well-defined edge. This rug brings together the graphic boldness of contemporary design and the authenticity of craftsmanship passed down through generations. It naturally finds its place in spaces that need a strong focal point: a living room with minimalist furniture, a bedroom where the floor carries visual weight, or a studio that appreciates texture and contrast.
