A Danish sideboard with a strikingly low profile, crafted in the 1970s in the Scandinavian Modern tradition. The form is almost entirely horizontal, giving it an architectural quality and allowing it to define space rather than just occupy it. Teak veneer across the surface emphasises the linear character of the design. The construction features an elongated top supported by slender, tapered legs. The proportions are radical: over two and a half metres wide and under thirty centimetres tall. This design choice allows the piece to hug the floor, visually expanding the room. Black-finished legs contrast with the warm teak veneer, adding a graphic element. The 1970s were a period of confident maturity in Danish design, with makers experimenting with proportion and moving beyond classical forms. Low furniture like this responded to changing domestic needs, such as televisions becoming focal points in living rooms. Veneered board construction provides the look of solid timber while ensuring stability. This sideboard is ideal as a base for audiovisual equipment or as a decorative element along a long wall. The generous top surface can hold stereo components, a vinyl collection, or a curated arrangement of objects. The low profile avoids dominating the room and preserves open space above. The piece is in good condition, with natural traces of use consistent with its age, including minor scratches and small chips. Minor losses have been filled. More noticeable traces of use are shown in the photographs to accurately convey its condition.
