Large vintage tapestry from Korhogo — Sénoufo, Ivory Coast

Large wall hanging made of hand-woven cotton using the traditional Sénoufo technique. Fermented vegetable dye obtained from mud and bark. The central motif represents a stylised animal scene: two wading birds (herons or ibises) framing a fantastic animal figure with angular geometric shapes. Border with interlaced diamond patterns. This type of cloth, made collectively by the women (spinning and dyeing) and men (weaving and painting) of the Sénoufo country, was traditionally used during initiation rites. Very good overall condition, natural wear patina on the fabric. Dimensions: L121.5 X H77.
