Antique Villeroy & Boch butter or sugar dish, late 19th century

Elegant and rare molded earthenware container with a lid decorated with raised leaves and garlands. This piece is typical of Villeroy & Boch's production in the late 19th century, 1852-1872. A superb, slightly silvered naturalistic decoration, unstamped. A patina of age, stains, and two chips on one side of the lid. It could originally have been used as a candy dish, sugar bowl, cheese dish, or jam jar. Today, it is an ideal decorative collector's item. Charming! Carefully shipped.
