Elegance of the Second Empire in all its grace. This French Chiavari chair, dated from the 1860s to 1880s, is a perfect example of salon furniture from the Parisian upper bourgeoisie: light, graphic, precious in its details. Its backrest with five finely turned spindles, adorned with alternating olives and beads, rises to a sculpted, scalloped gendarme hat — an unmistakable signature of the Napoléon III style. The pointed arch of the lower rail adds a subtly Gothic touch, very fashionable during the Second Empire. The seat in burgundy crimson velvet, bordered with period passementerie, brings warmth and colour that contribute to the dramatic character of the piece. The old patina on the structure — never touched up — bears witness to a life of over 150 years. A chair to stand alone, as a strong decorative accent, or to combine with other 19th-century pieces in a bold interior. To be collected in Versailles, Saint Nom la Bretèche (78860) or Issy Les Moulineaux. I can also deliver it to the foot of your house or building for 20 euros if you live in the southern and western parts of department 75, near Paris in 78, or in 92. Backrest height = 68 cm – seat width = 55 cm – seat height = 39 cm – seat depth = 48 cm – maximum width = 62 cm – total height = 106 cm.
