4 Maison Regain chairs, solid elm and saddle leather, 1970s

Set of 4 chairs by Maison Regain, solid elm with a seat and backrest in saddle leather. The construction is left deliberately visible: wedged mortise-and-tenon joints in the front legs, blocks locking the backrest in place, rivets fastening the leather to the frame. Nothing hidden, everything carrying its own weight in the design. Purchased in 1978, in use ever since. The leather has developed a patina that cannot be faked, with the wear marks that come with a piece of this age. Solid, straight-lined, without unnecessary ornament.
