Old Caucasian carpet Gendje

"ancient carpet of the caucasus gendje. Late 19th century " Caucasian carpet circa 1880. Gendje is a town located in the center of the traditional carpet weaving area of the caucasus mountains. Located on the main road connecting baku to tbilisi, the capital of georgia, the name gendje also refers to the mountainous area that surrounds the city. "gendje carpets were often made in a long, narrow format, and a large number of carpets were also produced... The polychrome octagonal borders... Can be identified as distinctive features of gendje weaving... Another motif associated with gendje is a diamond-shaped pattern. Medallion, often with a white outline that curves outwards and opens on each vertical side of the medallion. The effect is that there is a side opening on each side of the medallion" (middleton, michael, rugs & carpets: techniques, traditions & designs. Mitchell beazley, london, 1996, p. 55). Dimensions: 295x107 cm. Condition: wear in the borders, on a corner and in the center of the fringes on one side. In its center light wear also but wool present everywhere.
